Are game reviewers corrupt?

Is Call of Duty the new standard?
I am now apart of the group of gamers that are sick of COD, and get annoyed that newer games are being held to its standards. Although Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 was undoubtably one of the best games of 2009, the fact that games that are coming out now are being critized for not having the amount of depth that COD.  Last Tuesday, I went to the store in order to get a copy of Alien vs Predator. After playing the game for a few hours, I saw just how well made it was and of how much replay value it had, unfortunately that isn't enough for the gaming community today, seeing of how it was criticized for its visuals (which are fantastic and look just like the movie) and the fact that when you rank up in its muliplayer, you only get skins. Does multiplayer have to have perks, persistent stats and customizations in order to get good reviews? The only issues that I found with the game was the Alien controls are extremely hard to get used to and the fact that the campaigns were a bit repetitive, mostly the alien. Its unfortunate that such a well made and extremely fun game is being criticized for not being up to Call of Duty's standards. To be honest you can't help but wonder if every under the radar game will get the same treatment. With big games like Bad Company just around the corner do you think it will recieve the same treatment, or be praised for giving the same experience that Call of Duty offered. With AVP I myself love the game and found it quite enjoyable, yet because of the supposedly sub par graphics and controls the game has received mixed reviews.  Sure graphics are being hammered more by reviewers, but it doesnt mean that your experience would suffer because of them. Many of the reviews have given it a poor score make little to no sense, but rather make the game seem much better, a example would be the Game Informer review. I would highly recommend AVP due to its decent campaigns and excellent muliplayer, but if you have fallen victim to the corrupt review system that we have now, than your missing something truly excellent.
